Explore Europe Capitals
European capitals can feel familiar because many are prominent travel destinations, but familiarity is not the same as accurate recall. Learn each city with the country it governs and the region surrounding that country. Distinguishing neighbouring countries is especially helpful in central Europe and the Balkans, where a partially remembered city name can be an attractive distractor. This page uses European UN member-state entries with a single listed capital in its source dataset. It draws 20 questions for each round, so the complete pool is larger than the activity you see in one attempt. The Netherlands is a useful example of why you should separate a capital from a government seat: Amsterdam is the capital even though important government institutions are in The Hague. Read the explanation for a missed answer and make a note of the exact country-city pairing. Then use a map to locate the country before your next capitals round. Mixing location and capital practice adds context, while repeating only the missed questions keeps the next session focused. A timer records elapsed time, but there is no need to rush before the associations become reliable.
